The chronicle of the penultimate day. Morten Hvam closes his head

Six players on a field of 1,073 entrants remain vying for the € 5,300 EPT Monte Carlo Main Event and the conclusion of the PokerStars European Poker Tour 2022 presented by Monte-Carlo Casino®️ is just around the corner. The largest slice of the € 5,204,050 prize pool is still up for grabs and will only be awarded when a single player is crowned on Saturday 7 May 2022 at Le Sporting Monte Carlo’s Salle des Etoiles.

In pole position to claim the first prize of € 939,840 is Morten Hvam with 7,350,000 in chips, which is equivalent to the beauty of 92 big blind. The only thing certain is that a new champion will get his hands on the second leg of the biggest tour of the French Riviera. The last remaining champion in the competition was Niall Farrell, who wore the role of the first victim of the penultimate day and thus missed the appointment with the victory and the chance to become the third two-time winner of the popular poker tournament since alive.

Head to head between Morten Hvam and Marcelo Simoes

Morten Hvam was the chip leader at the end of Day 1b and Day 3, then spent most of Day 4 at the top of the standings and was only temporarily overtaken by Marcelo Simoes Mesqueu. The Brazilian is in second place with 6,890,000, showing a small gap with the nearest contenders.

Hugo Pingray closed out the provisional third place with a stack of 5,525,000 and will aim to add an EPT Main Event title to his 2014 WSOP bracelet. PokerStars qualifier Erkan Soenmez (4,850,000) and Jaime Cervantes (4,735,000) are separated by only two big blinds, while Dragos Trofimov closes the formation with 3,085,000.

The last player to be eliminated was PokerStars Players NL Hold’em Championship 2019 winner Ramon Colillas, who became the brand’s ambassador after this victory, but here in Monte Carlo he had to settle for the € 125,420 prize.
