Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.
The fourth annual Silver Angels race for the Elderly Classic Car Poker Run is on Saturday, May 21st.
Fun begins at 2:00 pm at Hayden Eagles, 1600 W. Wyoming Ave. and North Star Retirement Community.
A 1970 Plymouth Cuda, 426, is already listed; a 1969 Jaguar E; a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle; and a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette.
“The main reason we do this is because we want residents to see cars from a young age and share stories with drivers,” Silver Angels founder Diane Zell said Friday. “Secondly, we are raising funds for the ongoing ministry to offer personalized birthday gifts to facility residents, which we have been doing for the past three years.”
The non-profit organization also offers gifts and parties for the elderly in the community throughout the year.
“We celebrate almost every holiday with cards and gifts,” Zell said. “On Mother’s Day we gave away 64 cards, cookies and bouquets to two women in two facilities. We are looking for more ways to celebrate the lives of the residents. Many have no visitors and feel forgotten. For Christmas, caregivers and nurses they receive cards. “
A car show will begin at 3:30 p.m., and a later party with live music, online dancing, and awards will be at 5 p.m., after the cruise returns to the Hayden Eagles. The public is welcome.
“The site will be jumping,” Zell said.
